Due to the coronavirus pandemic, the Los Angeles Chamber Orchestra has canceled the remainder of its season, said LACO Executive Director Ben Cadwallader.

“While it is heartbreaking to cancel all of LACO’s remaining programming this season, the safety of our musicians, audience and staff will always take precedence,” Cadwallader said.

LACO will present a new free LACO at Home taped-for-streaming performance featuring concertmaster Margaret Batjer, who performs a selection of Bach solo violin works. Assistant concertmaster Teresa Stanislav and partner Viola Robert Brophy will also perform a Mozart violin and viola duo. The program will be streamed today and Friday, April 3, at 7:30 p.m., and will be subsequently available on demand.

“Even amidst the global health crisis unfolding before us, it is in music, art and beauty where we can always find light,” Cadwallader said. “The coronavirus pandemic may prevent us from gathering in person to share music, but current circumstances will not prevent LACO from continuing to provide great musical experiences.”

LACO at Home offers expanded and enhanced web content. It was launched on March 28 with its first streamed concert of the orchestra’s performance last fall featuring the West Coast premiere of “Dark with Excessive Bright” for double bass and strings by artist-in-residence Missy Mazzol.

The program, performed by David Grossman, LACO’s principal bass, and conducted by Jaime Martín, LACO music director, is available online. Ravel’s “Le tombeau de Couperin,” Stravinsky’s “Pulcinella” and Suite and Prokofiev’s “Classical” is also included.
