Animal Crossings: New Horizons is a video game that allows players to design a dream island lifestyle from the comfort of their homes. A player can plant trees, trade clothing with friends, design a house, and now can wear Van Gogh’s “Irises,” add a Renoir or Monet to wallpaper or host an art exhibition using Getty’s new tool.
The Art Generator transforms any open-access image in the Getty Museum’s collection into a mini artwork for Animal Crossing. Players can search images from the online collection or choose from some of Getty’s favorites, which are available in the generator, then scan the QR code to bring the artwork into the game.
The museum added a special converter, so that open-access artworks provided by other museums, as IIIF images, can also be transformed and shared on the game. For information, visit experiements.getty.edu/ac-art-generator.
