As the city of Beverly Hills follows the “Safer at Home” order due to the coronavirus pandemic, the city’s Department of Community Services has created a virtual community services website, communitylifebh.org, that offers a multitude of online programs, services, activities and resources to keep people active and nourished physically, mentally and spiritually at home.
Visitors to the “Artmake, Recreate & Library in Place” website will find fun, interesting, educational and interactive online resources for arts and culture, recreation and fitness, enrichment and learning, library and social services, the city’s virtual farmer’s market and farm-to-home delivery, and more.
Under art and soul, visitors will find inspiring music, dance, live performance and acts of human kindness to bring comfort. In arts and culture, people can enjoy the Broad Stage at Home, artistic short films on Vimeo and “Van Gogh Up Close.” In recreation, visitors will have access to preschool activities, arts and crafts, a virtual “Harry Potter” escape room, and adult and senior health, wellness, yoga and fitness classes.
In the virtual farmers’ market, people will find a list and contact information for farmers and vendors who are providing products through delivery or shipping. Library services offers a virtual Beverly Hills Library, as well as other online activities like Kanopy for movie streaming; Hoopla for digital movies, music and e-books; mind games for seniors and story time from space.
Those in need can find help as part of the city’s human services and social safety net for the most vulnerable residents, as well as information on mental health, housing and homeless services.
“The city’s Community Services Department has been working to develop creative ways to provide the community with critical and essential services and enriching and engaging community programs, events and activities while people are homebound,” said Jenny Rogers, community services director. “As part of the effort to fight the spread of COVID-19, we are inviting community folks to ‘Artmake, Recreate & Library in Place,’ providing our community with an array of resources to support the physical, emotional and spiritual health of our residents.”
