The city of West Hollywood announced late Wednesday that Mayor John D’Amico has tested positive for COVID-19.

D’Amico received news from his healthcare provider on March 18 that his COVID-19 test came back positive, according to a statement from the city. He immediately informed West Hollywood City Manager Paul Arevalo.

Arevalo issued an order for all staff members to leave work. City facilities have been closed to the public and staff who can work remotely are being transitioned to work-from-home schedules. All city facilities are being sanitized.

The mayor is taking every precaution recommended by his physician and following public health directives, according to the city’s statement. He is home resting. His husband is doing fine and is also taking part in a quarantine at home with D’Amico. To facilitate their wellness, the mayor is asking for privacy.

The city of West Hollywood has been taking coordinated action following the lead of public health recommendations to respond to the rapidly evolving coronavirus crisis. Last week, the city canceled all non-essential meetings and events. On March 16, the city declared a local emergency and on March 17, West Hollywood City Hall and city facilities were closed to the public. The city has also been taking every precaution to safeguard employees, according to the statement.
