Morrison Hotel Gallery will host a celebration on Saturday, Feb. 8, to commemorate the half-centennial of The Doors’ album, “Morrison Hotel,” and the gallery’s own 20th anniversary.
Hosted by John Varvatos and Timothy White, the celebration will pay homage to legendary photographer and gallery partner Henry Diltz. Diltz’s extensive body of work encompasses such hallmarks as the album cover that gives the gallery its namesake, as well as images from Woodstock, Monterey Pop and Laurel Canyon.
In addition to some of music history’s most intimate moments, Diltz has captured portraits of Crosby, Stills & Nash, Joni Mitchell and Keith Richards, and concert shots of Jimi Hendrix, Janis Joplin and Kurt Cobain.
The festivities will take place at the Sunset Marquis, with a poolside performance where Robby Krieger of The Doors, along with Danny Clinch and his Tangiers Blues Band, will be joined by special surprise guests.
An exhibition of rare outtakes from Diltz’s impromptu Morrison Hotel session will take place within the gallery. Diltz and Krieger will reunite for a panel discussion.
The event runs from 7 to 10 p.m. and RSVP is required.
The Sunset Marquis is located at 1200 Alta Loma Road, West Hollywood. For information, visit morrisonhotelgallery.com. To RSVP, email [email protected].
