Detectives with the Los Angeles Police Department’s West Traffic Division are seeking a driver who allegedly struck and killed an 87-year-old man in Koreatown on Feb. 22, as well as a second driver who also struck the victim’s body and drove away.
The collision occurred at approximately 4 a.m. near the intersection of Eighth Street and Westmoreland Avenue. The suspect was driving a white, four-door BMW sedan eastbound on Eighth Street and allegedly struck the victim, who was crossing west of Westmoreland Avenue outside of a marked crosswalk.
The male driver stopped and momentarily got out of the vehicle. Witnesses told him to remain at the scene, but the suspect re-entered the car and drove away eastbound on Eighth Street, police said. Witnesses described the suspect as Asian, 5 feet 7 inches to 5 feet 9 inches tall.
After witnesses called police and were waiting at the scene, another driver in a white Honda Accord ran over the victim’s body and drove away. No further information was available about that driver.
A $50,000 reward is available for information that leads to the arrest and conviction of the suspects. Anyone with information is urged to contact West Traffic Detectives at (213)473-0234 or (213)473-0232. During weekends and off-hours, call the LAPD’s hotline at (877)LAPD247.
