The Paley Center announced its plans to move out of its Beverly Hills building last month, but the saga may not be over quite yet.
Beverly Hills spokesman Keith Sterling said in an email that the city has been in touch with representatives from the Paley Center, and the group’s relocation is expected to be a topic of discussion during the Jan. 28 City Council meeting.
“The Paley Center is a tremendous asset to the Beverly Hills community,” Sterling added.
The Paley Center, which focuses on “the cultural, creative and social significance of television, radio and emerging platforms” to examine “the intersections between media and society,” according to its website, opened its Beverly Hills location at 465 N. Beverly Drive in 1996.
However, the land beneath the center’s Leonard H. Goldenson Building was owned by a group of family trusts, according to a report in Variety, and in 2014, the property was sold to New York-based Janel Management Corp., which now is buying out the center’s lease. Representatives of Janel did not return requests for comment.
The Paley Center plans to leave its Beverly Hills location by mid-2020, though it will remain in its New York City location. The Beverly Hills location appears to have been removed from the group’s website.
However, the Paley Center isn’t going to leave Los Angeles entirely, said Teresa Brady, the group’s director of communications. The Paley Center is looking into a potential new space in the Los Angeles area to house the group’s archive, she said, and the Paley Center will still hold events in the area.
“Even though we’re leaving the building, our presence remains the same,” Brady said. “We’ll continue to produce PaleyFest year after year. We’ll continue to host Paley Media Council programs, where we host some of the renowned names in the industry.”
The PaleyFest L.A. lineup, which was announced on Jan. 14, will bring the stars, writers, producers and creators of multiple television shows to the Dolby Theatre in Hollywood from March 12-22.
“Every year, television fans know that PaleyFest L.A. is the place to be for the inside scoop on the most acclaimed and popular shows on television, and this year’s lineup is no exception,” said Maureen J. Reidy, the Paley Center’s president and CEO, in a statement. “From some of the top shows in drama, comedy, fantasy, science fiction and a special celebration of one of the world’s most beloved entertainers, there is something for every television fan to enjoy at this year’s PaleyFest.”
The festival will begin with “Modern Family” on March 13, followed by “One Day at a Time” and “A Special Evening with Dolly Parton & Dolly Parton’s Heartstrings” on March 14, and a celebration of the 400th episode of “NCIS” and “The Boys” on March 15.
March 18 will feature “Star Trek: Picard,” March 19 will focus on “Outlander” and on March 20, “Curb Your Enthusiasm” will be celebrated.
On March 21, attendees will hear from the casts and crews of “Dead to Me” and “Ozark.”
On March 22, “Schitt’s Creek” will be celebrated in the afternoon before PaleyFest closes with “The Mandalorian” that evening.
Tickets are now on sale to members of the Paley Center, and they will be available to the general public tomorrow, Jan. 17. For information, visit paleycenter.org.
