Metro is holding a quarterly meeting to provide updates on the Wilshire/La Brea, Wilshire/Fairfax and Wilshire/La Cienega subway stations this evening, Jan. 16, from 6:30 to 7:30 p.m. at John Burroughs Middle School, 600 S. McCadden Place.
The meeting will include a project overview and information on work currently occurring along the Purple Line Extension route from Wilshire/Western to Wilshire/La Cienega. For information, visit metro.net/projects/notices/events_purpleline.
Metro is also offering two upcoming ways to receive information about subway construction in Beverly Hills. A lunchtime webinar will be held on Wednesday, Feb. 5, from noon to 1 p.m. To participate, call (650)479-3207 and use the access code 809 386 471, and the password Purple. A monthly construction meeting will also be held on Feb. 5, from 6:30 to 8 p.m. in the Second Floor Municipal Gallery at Beverly Hills City Hall, 445 N. Rexford Drive. A project overview and information on the Wilshire/Rodeo and Wilshire/La Cienega stations will be provided. For information, call (213)922-6934, or email purplelineext@metro.net.
Street reconfiguration work is ongoing along Wilshire Boulevard in Beverly Hills in anticipation of piling starting again after a break during the holidays. Piling operations are expected to resume on Jan. 28 on the north side of Wilshire Boulevard from Beverly to Crescent drives. Two lanes will be maintained eastbound and westbound on Wilshire Boulevard during the day, and one lane will be maintained in both directions during weeknights. Vehicles will not be permitted to make left turns onto westbound Wilshire Boulevard at Reeves and Beverly drives. Left turn lanes will also be removed on eastbound Wilshire Boulevard at Crescent Drive.
Approximately 260 steel beams will be inserted into the ground to create a perimeter around a future subway station. Excavation will begin once the piles are in place. Piling is scheduled to continue through July.
Piles will be installed across Beverly Drive on weekends and will require lane closures at the intersection of Wilshire Boulevard and Beverly Drive. Once piling is complete along the north side of Wilshire Boulevard, the process will shift to the south side of the street. The work will occur seven days a week from 8 a.m. to 11 p.m., with non-drilling activities from 9 p.m. to 11 p.m.
Instruments are also being installed along the subway route and around the station box area to monitor ground movement, settlement and geological impacts during piling.
Subway station construction is also ongoing at Wilshire/La Cienega, where material deliveries, instrumentation and concrete pouring are ongoing. Station construction continues 24 hours per day in the staging yards at Wilshire/La Cienega and Wilshire/Gale. Gale Drive will be intermittently closed at Wilshire Boulevard to support construction in the staging yard. The closure is a public safety measure due to high volumes of vehicle ingress and egress from the property. Access to North Gale Drive will be maintained from San Vicente Boulevard. Work hours outside the staging yards are 6 a.m. to 6 p.m., Monday through Saturday.
Near La Jolla Avenue and Crescent Heights Boulevard, utility and tunnel investigation is occurring during off-peak hours from 9 a.m. to 3:30 p.m. and 8 p.m. to 6 a.m. on weekdays, and 7 a.m. to 11 p.m. on weekends. Lane closures along Wilshire Boulevard will be intermittently necessary between San Diego Way and San Vicente Boulevard.
Near Wilshire/Fairfax, station construction, hauling and concrete pouring is ongoing. Ogden Drive will be closed 24-hours at Wilshire Boulevard. Intermittent lane closures may also be in place to support deck panel maintenance and soil investigation in the Wilshire/Fairfax station area. Anticipated work hours are 9 a.m. to 3:30 p.m., and 7 p.m. to 6 a.m., Monday through Friday.
At Wilshire/La Brea and at a work zone in the center of Wilshire Boulevard near Sycamore Avenue, hauling, deliveries and tunneling support continue. Intermittent lane closures may be necessary between Highland Avenue and Detroit Street for instrumentation, environmental testing and street maintenance on Wilshire Boulevard and side streets.
Material deliveries and underground construction support also continues at a work zone in the center of Wilshire Boulevard near Rimpau Boulevard. Wilshire Boulevard has been reduced to two lanes in each direction between June Street and Muirfield Road. Concrete and material deliveries are anticipated to continue at the site throughout January.
Tunneling support and street maintenance is also ongoing ear Wilshire/Western. Northbound Manhattan Place will be closed intermittently just north of Wilshire Boulevard, Monday to Friday, from 7 a.m. to 11 p.m., and Saturday and Sunday, 8 a.m. to 11 p.m. Intermittent single lane closures may also be in place on Wilshire Boulevard between Western Avenue and Manhattan Place, Monday through Friday, from 9 a.m. to 3:30 p.m.
