Families of children being treated for cancer and blood disorders enjoyed a festive holiday celebration on Dec. 18 hosted by the Cedars-Sinai Pediatric Hematology Oncology Division, part of the Maxine Dunitz Children’s Health Center. The annual holiday party included games, arts and crafts, a magician, DJ and photo booth. Gifts were given to all participants, who also visited with Santa Claus. The toys and gifts were donated by students from El Segundo High School, a tradition for 15 years. Seventy-five bags of new toys were provided.
The patients, many of whom spend years being treated at Cedars-Sinai, look forward to the party all year, said Child Life Specialist Joanne Ordono.
“It’s a party just for them. They get to be kids and have fun with their families,” Ordono added. “They also enjoy seeing their caregivers outside of the hospital setting.”
El Segundo High School Activities Director Robin Espinoza led the toy drive.
“It’s an event that our seniors greatly look forward to,” she said. “The students love the opportunity to bring joy to other young people who may be going through a difficult time.”
