The Los Angeles County Department of Public Social Services Toy Loan Program and Amazon are encouraging charitable donations via the Amazon Wishlist website to benefit county Toy Loan Center sites serving low-income communities.
With the support of the county’s Internal Services Department, the website enables the public to help thousands of families who rely on the Toy Loan Program. For 83 years, the free Toy Loan Program has allowed children to borrow toys from a Toy Loan Center in the same manner in which they borrow books from a public library. Children borrow new toys once a week. People can check out a toy from 54 lending libraries and Toy Loan Centers. The program is a voluntary, community effort supported by the Los Angeles County Board of Supervisors.
The website allows users to geographically select a Toy Loan Program site and have in-need Amazon Smile charity wish lists items shipped directly to the site. DPSS also encourages donors to post a screenshot of their toy loan donation to Facebook, Twitter and Instagram with #ToyLoan. For information and to view wish lists, visit toydrive.lacounty.gov.
