Wilshire Division robbery detectives are searching for two male suspects who snatched a phone from a victim on Dec. 7 near the intersection of Beverly Boulevard and Stanley Avenue.
Det. Bernard Romero said the robbery occurred at approximately 5:55 p.m. as the female victim was walking along Beverly Boulevard while using her phone. The suspects were likely looking for people who are distracted, a common practice for thieves looking for property they can steal and quickly sell for cash, he added.
“They grabbed her cell phone and struggled for it,” Romero said. “They took the cell and fled in a black, four-door vehicle. We want people to reach out if they saw anything in the area. We are trying to find the car and see if we can get a license plate.”
The victim was shaken but not injured. The suspects were black, in their 20s, approximately 5 feet 11 inches tall and 140 pounds, police said.
Romero said there haven’t been any similar robberies recently in that area, but they can occur anywhere. He warned about being distracted in public, particularly during the holidays.
“Historically, that’s what happens. They approached her because she had a cell phone,” Romero said. “They may cost $1,000, but to thieves, it’s something they can sell quickly for $200 or $300. Be aware of your surroundings.”
During the holidays, the Los Angeles Police Department deploys additional resources to neighborhoods with many retail stores, including The Grove and Beverly Center. People are also warned not to keep valuables in plain sight inside vehicles and to keep doors and windows locked.
“Be cognizant of your situation,” Romero added. “Be safe out there.”
