Coroner’s office officials are investigating human remains that were found on Dec. 2 in a grassy area off Camp Road and Griffith Park Drive, in a remote area of the hills west of the Wilson and Harding Golf Courses.
The remains were found at approximately 9 a.m. by a man walking a dog in the area, Los Angeles Police Department spokesman J. Chaves said. He described the victim as male, possibly white or Hispanic and approximately 40 to 50 years old.
Police were called to the scene but the Los Angeles County Department of Medical Examiner-Coroner will conduct the death investigation, investigator Ryan Parraz said. The cause of death has not been determined, and the investigation may take days or weeks. The body was not intact due to animal activity, Chaves added. Media reports that it may have been the body of a homeless individual could not be confirmed.
