Foster children will visit the Beverly Hills home of actress Natalia Safran and producer Peter Safran on Nov. 16 from 12 to 3 p.m. for a Thanksgiving feast and the chance to meet potential adoptive families.
The Safrans are hosting the event as a part of the Kidsave Weekend Miracle program, which matches older kids in foster care with hosts who make a one-year commitment to spend time with a child at least two weekends every month, according to kidsave.org.
The couple got involved with the organization when a friend of Natalia’s introduced her to Kidsave co-founder and CEO Randi Thompson. As part of Kidsave’s Summer Miracle program, in which a group of children from a foreign country come to the U.S. for a five-week stay, the Safrans hosted a 12-year-old girl from Colombia named Lily last summer.
“It was a life-changing experience and we loved coming together with the other host families advocating to find adoptive homes for the guest children,” Natalia Safran said. “Whether you are just wanting to volunteer and help advocate for the kids, or your potential goal is to adopt, this is the place to be.”
The goal of finding a loving, permanent family for older foster children will continue at the Thanksgiving feast as part of Adoption Awareness month. Kids and adults who have indicated at prior events that they want to get to know each other better will spend the afternoon eating together and playing bingo.
“This time of year is particularly poignant for reevalutaing your prerogatives. Focusing on giving thanks for what you have been given in life makes you want to share your good fortune and spread the love,” Natalia Safran said. “No matter where you are on your journey, there is always so much to be grateful for and much to share with others.”
Although the event is not open to the public, families looking to get involved with the program can fill out a form at kidsave.org/ae-contact/ and Kidsave will be in touch.
