The L.A. County Development Authority has issued a request for proposal to explore new technologies for its pilot Demonstration Project to Fast-Track Housing Supply.
The project will test and add to the LACDA’s existing affordable housing stock by utilizing forward-thinking technology and methodology. On land it owns in South Los Angeles, the LACDA is exploring the possibility of constructing very small homes using prefabricated and modular dwellings, and 3-D printed construction. The technologies are beneficial because of reduced cost and construction time.
The expectation is that newer methodologies and technologies will be more cost effective in creating housing faster, which can potentially affect the cost of housing across all markets.
The project will be using a mixed stream of funding, including support from Citi Community Development, the founding corporate sponsor, and Wells Fargo. The LACDA intends to possibly award an exclusive negotiating agreement to three proposers for pre-development, design and construction. The RFP will close on Tuesday, Nov. 19.
