Gov. Gavin Newsom has appointed Los Angeles County Probation Director Michelle Guymon to the California Advisory Committee on Juvenile Justice and Delinquency of the Board of State and Community Corrections. As a committee member, Guymon will provide insight for state lawmakers regarding the needs and challenges facing justice-involved youth.
“I’ve had the privilege of working with and advocating for youth in the juvenile justice system for over 27 years,” Guymon said. “I am honored to have been appointed to this state advisory committee and look forward to collaborating with stakeholders to ensure the continued support for our youth and promote the systematic change of how commercially sexually exploited children are treated by justice systems across the state.”
Guymon is currently director of L.A. County Probation’s Child Trafficking Unit and project manager for Los Angeles County’s Law Enforcement First Responder Protocol for CSEC, which places a priority on treating children that are trafficked as victims rather than criminals. She is also a frequent presenter and trainer regarding child abuse issues and strategies for working with youth in the probation system.
