Metro has announced there will be no construction taking place at and around the Wilshire/Rodeo subway station from Thanksgiving through New Year’s Day. Construction will resume after Jan. 2, and traffic in the area will be reconfigured.
Work continues at many other locations along the Purple Line Extension project route from Wilshire/Western to Century City. At the western end of the project, a new traffic signal will be installed on Century Park East to help facilitate vehicle access to and from Watt Plaza during the full closure of Constellation Boulevard. The installation will begin Monday, Dec. 9 and will continue through the end of December. Work hours are 8 p.m. to 6 a.m., Monday through Friday. Intermittent lane and sidewalk closures will be required.
Constellation Boulevard has been closed between Century Park East and Avenue of the Stars since 2018, and plans call for the closure to extend through next July to facilitate the launch of tunnel boring machines there early next year.
Century Park East may also be reduced to one lane in each direction during construction. Intermittent closures of the Watt Plaza parking structure driveway and a pedestrian ramp on Century Park East may also be required during the work. The northern driveway closest to Santa Monica Boulevard will remain accessible.
Additionally, a water line is being relocated underneath Constellation Boulevard from the west edge of the current closure to approximately Solar Way. Work will be completed in stages to minimize impacts. Relocation will begin east of Avenue of the Stars and is anticipated to move west through the intersection in early 2020. Pile driving is expected to being in the area in mid-January.
Farther east, work continues at Wilshire/La Cienega, where station construction, material deliveries, instrumentation and concrete pouring is ongoing. Work will be conducted 24 hours a day within the staging yards at Wilshire/La Cienega and Wilshire/Gale. Gale Drive will be intermittently closed at Wilshire Boulevard to support construction activities in the Gale Staging Yard. Concrete and rebar deliveries will be ongoing to the Wilshire/La Cienega station box and intermittent lane reductions, turn restrictions and sidewalk closures may be in place to support instrumentation work, and road and utility maintenance at Wilshire/La Cienega and Wilshire/Stanley.
Utility and tunnel investigation is also ongoing near Wilshire/Crescent Heights and Wilshire/La Jolla. The work will occur from 8 p.m. to 6 a.m. and will require single lane closures along Wilshire Boulevard between Crescent Heights and San Vicente boulevards.
Near Wilshire/Fairfax, station construction, hauling and concrete pouring is ongoing. Ogden Drive will be closed at Wilshire Boulevard and Orange Grove Avenue will be closed between Wilshire Boulevard and Eighth Street through June 2020. Intermittent lane closures may be in place to support deck panel maintenance and investigation in the Fairfax station area. Anticipated work hours are 9 a.m. to 3:30 p.m., and 7 p.m. to 6 a.m., Monday through Friday.
Hauling, deliveries and tunneling support is also occurring near Wilshire/La Brea and at a work zone in the center of Wilshire Boulevard at Sycamore Avenue. Hauling and deliveries to and from the La Brea Staging Yards will continue as tunneling progresses. Work hours are 6 a.m. to 4 p.m. and 7 p.m. to 2 a.m., Monday through Saturday. Intermittent lane closures may be necessary on Wilshire Boulevard and side streets between Highland Avenue and Detroit Street. Traffic on Sycamore Avenue may be restricted intermittently at Wilshire Boulevard to support truck staging.
Work also continues at Wilshire/Rimpau, where a work zone on the west side of the intersection is anticipated to be in place for 10 to 12 months. Wilshire Boulevard will be reduced to two lanes in each direction between June Street and Muirfield Road.
Tunneling support and street maintenance work is ongoing at Wilshire/Western. Northbound Manhattan Place will be closed intermittently just north of Wilshire Boulevard, Monday to Friday, from 7 a.m. to 11 p.m., and Saturday and Sunday, 8 a.m. to 11 p.m. Intermittent single lane closures may also be in place on Wilshire Boulevard between Western Avenue and Manhattan Place, Monday through Friday, 9 a.m. to 3:30 p.m. Tunnel segment deliveries are occurring and 24-hour work will continue at the Western Staging Yard.
