From 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. on Nov. 19-22, visitors to the La Brea Tar Pits can try the Perceptoscope, a new type of augmented reality that offers interactive, immersive media experiences for all ages.
Perceptoscope, winner of a National Science Foundation Small Business Innovation Research grant, has to potential to show 3D video animations of mammoths or optical illusions of saber-toothed cats that planted their paws in the L.A. region more than 10,000 years ago. The devices, which resemble coin-operated binocular viewers often found in parks and tourist attractions, could also offer an up-close view of recent discoveries by museum scientists.
The La Brea Tar Pits are located at 5801 Wilshire Blvd. For information, visit tarpits.org.
