The Los Angeles Board of Public Works has elected Aura Garcia as vice president, succeeding Cecilia Cabello, who recently stepped down from the position.

Garcia is a public policy expert with more than 20 years of experience in building and designing community revitalization projects to improve the quality of life for residents throughout Los Angeles.

“Aura is a respected leader with a proven record of advocating for those who need it most in our community including minorities, students and small business owners,” Los Angeles Board of Public Works President Kevin James said. “As board vice president, she will continue to serve Angelenos with her wealth of experience, dedication and a can-do attitude.”

Garcia began her career in the education sector at the Los Angeles Education Partnership, where she advocated for greater educational equity in Los Angeles. Before joining the Board of Public Works, she worked at Los Angeles Mission College in the Office of the President as an executive consultant and grant writer, and served as a commissioner on the city’s North Valley Area Planning Commission. Prior to that, Garcia served as Los Angeles Mayor Eric Garcetti’s regional manager in the Office of Public Engagement and worked as Garcetti’s East Valley representative.

Known for her proven ability to bring people together, Garcia has aligned public agencies, the private sector, business leaders and community residents to build partnerships and work collaboratively.

“I’m honored by this new opportunity to serve as vice president of the Board of Public Works,” Garcia said. “I look forward to continuing our work to strengthen our city’s infrastructure and improve service and access to resources for all of our communities throughout Los Angeles in this new role.”
