In the face of the escalating public health emergency surrounding vaping, City Attorney Mike Feuer released a report to the City Council on Sept. 19 recommending that the council enact a citywide ban on the sale of all flavored tobacco products.
“Flavored tobacco plays an outsized role in the vaping epidemic confronting our youth and has long been a factor in increasing demand for traditional tobacco products,” Feuer said.
Tony Arranaga, spokesman for Los Angeles City Councilman Mitch O’Farrell, 13th District, who initially asked for the report, said O’Farrell “will monitor the progress every step of the way to see this to the finish line” in order to “help better protect young Angelenos from the dangerous and sometimes deadly effects of flavored tobacco products.”
