Congregation Kol Ami in West Hollywood has announced the theme for its annual High Holy Day Services is “Awaken Your Soul.”
The congregation will hold its Rosh Hashanah and Yom Kippur services at Harmony Gold Theatre, 7655 Sunset Blvd. Services are led by rabbis Denise L. Eger and Max Chaiken with Cantor Patti Linsky. Congregation Kol Ami will welcome Nate Wildetz as music director.
Congregation Kol Ami, a reform synagogue located at 1200 N. La Brea Ave., combines tradition and innovation to welcome the New Year. Since its founding in 1992, Congregation Kol Ami has become an important leader in the Jewish, LGBTQIA and West Hollywood communities. Its commitment to progressive spirituality, diversity, inclusion and social justice has been celebrated nationwide. Eger is an internationally known activist for human rights and social justice and a national leader of the Reform Movement.
“The constant search for identity, justice, wisdom, love – in short, a life well-lived – is what brings us together as a community. We find inspiration in our traditions. We return to our roots for guidance, and we turn to each other for support and friendship,” Eger said. “At this New Year season, our search for healing, renewal, repentance and love is at the forefront of our hearts and souls. May we be reminded that we can yet dream and become the people God imagined us to be.”
Rosh Hashanah, also known as the Jewish New Year, begins at sunset on Sunday, Sept. 29. Congregation Kol Ami’s services begin at 8 p.m. on Sept. 29 and resume the following morning on Sept. 30 at 10 a.m. Children’s Rosh Hashanah services start at 10:30 a.m. All services on Sept. 29 and 30 will be held in the Harmony Gold Theatre.
Second day Rosh Hashanah service will be held on Tuesday, Oct. 1, at 10 a.m. at the temple.
Yom Kippur services begin on Tuesday, Oct. 8, at 8 p.m. at the Harmony Gold Theatre and continue on Wednesday, Oct. 9, at 10 a.m. with children services at 10:30 a.m., Yizkor will be held at 12:30 p.m., and afternoon and closing services begin at 3:30 p.m. at the Harmony Gold Theatre. A12-step meeting and grief support group begins at 1:30 p.m.
