The Beverly Hills Chamber of Commerce applauded the state Senate Appropriations Committee declining to pass Assembly Bill 516 on Aug. 12.
AB 516 would have limited the ability of cities and other municipalities to tow cars under a variety of circumstances, the chamber said, including vehicles that remained parked beyond local city time limits unless the vehicles were allowed to remain an extra five or more business days after being given notice of the violation.
This restriction would have prevented the ability of cities to control their streets and the ability of businesses to remove cars that had become a nuisance, the chamber said.
“The chamber is pleased to report that the bill failed to pass a key committee and will not be moving forward this year,” the chamber said in its newsletter.
