On Aug. 7, Los Angeles Community College District Board of Trustees President Andra Hoffman announced that the district, in collaboration with SEIU Local 99, is hosting a two-day “Women’s Empowerment Conference” on Aug. 15-16.
The professional development conference will be held from 8 a.m. to 4 p.m. each day in the third-floor multipurpose room of the Student Union building at Los Angeles City College. Attendance is free for SEIU Local 99 members, who will also be given paid release time to attend the conference if needed, but the conference is open to anyone.
“As LACCD board president, I’m excited to co-sponsor the event, and I’m pleased that the district is able to bring this training opportunity to our SEIU members, many of whom are part of our custodial staff and are rarely offered professional development and career enhancement opportunities,” Hoffman said. “We hope attendees will be inspired to new levels of success through fun, powerful breakthrough activities that will help women overcome personal and professional barriers and gain new confidence in a safe, non-judgmental environment.”
The conference sessions include, among others, Diversity-Importance of Women in the Workplace, More Students-More Money, Your Role in Student Success and Speak Up and Speak Out-Your Voice is Needed. Expert advice also will be provided on how to break through gender barriers on important issues facing women in SEIU Local 99.
Online registration is available at bit.ly/33pC7Yy.
