Los Angeles City Councilman Mitch O’Farrell, 13th District, recently joined skateboarders, residents and representatives from the city’s Department of Recreation and Parks at the grand re-opening of a skate park at Lake Street Community Center in Historic Filipinotown.
The improvements to the skate park, located at 227 N. Lake St., near Temple and Alvarado streets, include concrete features such as a stairset, ledges, quarter pipes and rails.
“Skate parks provide a neighborhood space for a recognized sport that is growing in popularity,” O’Farrell said. “I want to thank the Department of Recreation and Parks for enhancing an older facility with a fresher look and challenging features. This newly-improved space is sure to be the pride and joy of Lake Street.”
The park also features a modified bowl on the west end that will be a main attraction for skaters.
O’Farrell was joined at the ribbon cutting by Vert World Championship Silver Medalist Arianna Carmona and more than a dozen women and girls from the skateboarding group Girl is NOT a 4 Letter Word.
The park is open seven days a week, from 10 a.m. to 9 p.m. For information, visit laparks.org.
