Through Aug. 24, CMay Gallery is hosting “Heaven on Earth,” a solo exhibition featuring new works by Los Angeles-based artist Manfred Menz.
In a series of 14 photographs, Menz manipulates mundane cloudscapes into opportunities for advertisement. Condensation trails are decorated with the American Airlines logo, Coca-Cola perches on a serene cumulus and Netflix takes over a nimbus threatening to blot out blue skies.
“Heaven on Earth” lands somewhere between comical and cautionary. The innocuousness of Menz’s satire is underscored by the fact that the work isn’t glossy, allowing the audience to discern fact from fiction. Menz’s work aims to warn of things to come from the growth of corporate culture and society’s complacency in watching it float by.
CMay Gallery is located at 5828 Wilshire Blvd. For information, email info@cmaygallery.com.
