The Beverly Hills Police Department will participate in an enforcement operation from Monday, Aug. 19, through Saturday Aug. 24, to educate drivers about traffic laws, rules of the road and responsibilities.

Additional BHPD officers will be deployed to look for violations that are likely to cause traffic collisions. That includes speeding, running stop signs, making illegal turns and unsafe lane changes, and many other violations.

In 2018, the BHPD investigated 419 injury collisions involving automobiles, bicyclists, motorcyclists and pedestrians.

“Whether you are on foot, behind the wheel or on a bike, you play a part in roadway safety,” Beverly Hills Police Chief Sandra Spagnoli said. “Understanding the rules of the road when using any mode of transportation helps ensure we all get to our destinations safely.”

The BHPD supports the new California Office of Traffic Safety public awareness campaign, “Go Safely, California,” and the national campaign, “Drive Sober or Get Pulled Over.” In addition to patrols, BHPD will hold a DUI/driver’s license checkpoint on Friday, Aug. 16, from 9 p.m. to 3 a.m. at an undisclosed location in the city. Additional enforcement efforts aimed at reducing driving under the influence will be held through Labor Day weekend.

“There is no excuse for driving impaired when there are so many alternatives available – public transportation, ride [hailing] services and designated sober drivers,” Spagnoli added. “Driving while drunk or high is not worth the risk to yourself, your passengers and everyone else on the road.”
