Family fun continues in July with performances at the Skirball Cultural Center, including storyteller Rick Huddle, the all-female mariachi ensemble Las Colibrí, percussion and education ensemble Rhythm Child, and a dance performance by the STC Foundation.
Featuring music, dance and storytelling, the interactive performances are held in the Skirball’s outdoor amphitheater and included with museum admission.
Families are invited to explore “Fearless Fashion” and “Black Is Beautiful,” as well as the Skirball’s ever-popular children’s and family destination, “Noah’s Ark at the Skirball.” Timed tickets to “Noah’s Ark” are required. Museum admission also includes sessions in the Skirball’s Family Art Studio and the center’s simulated archaeological dig.
Entertainer Rick Huddle will present “Open Up & Say HA!” on Saturday, July 20, at noon and 2 p.m. The program combines storytelling, music and audience participation.
Las Colibrí performs on Sunday, July 21 at noon and 2 p.m. Dressed in the vibrant costumes of Mexican cinematic divas and blending vocal harmonies with traditional mariachi instrumentation, Las Colibrí performs contagious beats and melodies.
Rhythm Child, a family-run music and education company that uses rhythm as a tool for building confidence, communicating positive messages and promoting group cooperation, performs on Saturday, July 27 at noon and 2 p.m. Audience members are encouraged to drum along with the band.
On Sunday, July 28 at noon and 2 p.m., STC Foundation dancers will take audiences through the history of Chinese culture. The program encourages self-confidence and positive well being.
The Skirball Cultural Center is located at 2701 N. Sepulveda Blvd. General admission is $12. For information, visit skirball.org.
