The city of Los Angeles Department of Recreation and Parks opened a renovated playground in the Fern Dell area of Griffith Park on July 20 at 2333 Fern Dell Drive.
City Councilman David Ryu, 4th District, joined members of the Moms Club of Los Feliz, the Los Feliz Neighborhood Council and the Hollywood United Neighborhood Council at an opening ceremony.
A new tree house is the centerpiece at the new, modern playground designed for youth ages 2 to 12 years old. Equipped with an internal ladder that leads to the two 8-foot high spiral slides, the centerpiece, made of concrete, resembles a large hollowed out tree, creating an imaginative play environment.
The entire playground includes five slides: two 8-foot-high spiral slides, an 8-foot-high straight slide, a 6-foot-high spiral slide and a 3-foot-high double slide. Three integrated fabric shades and two metal roofs reminiscent of “Swiss Family Robinson” will allow for extended outdoor play time.
The Fern Dell area also includes a walking path that borders a stream under the shade of sycamore trees. The area is located north of Los Feliz Boulevard, just east of Western Avenue. For information, visit laparks.org.
