A photograph in the July 21, 1955, issue of the Park La Brea News showed young people enjoying a day of swimming at the Pan Pacific Park Pool, which at the time was known as the West Wilshire Swimming Pool. The cool water offered a respite from the warm summer temperatures and the pool at 141 S. Gardner St. was very popular among residents of Park La Brea and the surrounding neighborhood, according to an accompanying article. The Pan Pacific Park Pool remains a popular destination and is open to the public today, July 4, from 1 to 5 p.m. Regular hours for public swimming are noon to 2 p.m., and 3 to 7 p.m., Monday through Friday; 1 to 5 p.m., Saturday and Sunday. The Hollywood Pool, located at 1122 Cole Ave., is also open today from 1 to 5 p.m., and remains open during the same regular hours as the Pan Pacific Park Pool.
