The Pet Care Foundation is sponsoring “Catapalooza” at all six Los Angeles Animal Services Centers on Saturday, July 20, from 8 a.m. to 5 p.m., and Sunday, July 21, from 11 a.m. to 5 p.m., to promote cat and kitten adoptions.
Last year, over 150 felines found homes during the event, which is being held again because of a large number of kittens born in 2019. “Catapalooza” will include reduced adoption fees and treats for visitors.
“Cats are wonderful companion animals. They are loving, opinionated and fun,” said L.A. Animal Services General Manager Brenda Barnette. “They are ideal companions for those who have busy jobs. Everybody needs a cat.”
Since January, the kitten population has increased by 20% and the adult cat intake has increased by 15% in city shelters.
“While they are very cute, they grow up fast and if they don’t find homes soon, their adoption prospects become much more dubious,” said Bill Crowe, director of the Pet Care Foundation. “It is hoped that this event will help to alleviate the problem of over-crowded cat rooms in the city shelters while simultaneously lowering the euthanasia rate.”
The L.A. Animal Services Center serving the local area is located at 11361 W. Pico Blvd.
