LA Pride in West Hollywood was last weekend, but there are more planned Pride-related activities to celebrate the theme of “One City, One Pride.” All events will be held in the West Hollywood City Council Chambers or the West Hollywood Library.
On June 26, the film “LA: A Queer History” will be screened in council chambers at 7 p.m. Admission is free to see a director’s cut of Gregorio Davila’s nearly complete documentary about Los Angeles’ contributions to the LGBTQ rights movement. A trailer is available at vimeo.com/328527151.
On June 30, a full day of programming in the council chambers includes the queer poetry pop-up “Everyone Deserves (A) Love (Poem),” an interactive installation where poets will write love poems on antique typewriters for attendees. The pop-up is from 1:30 to 2:30 p.m., and admission is free.
At 2:30 p.m., “Crush: First Love, New Talent,” an LGBTQ comic anthology about first (queer) love from Prism Comics, will be presented as part of WeHo Reads. There will be readings from the book and a book-signing.
From 4 to 4:30 p.m., poets will read highlighted poems that were written over the course of “One City, One Pride.”
At 5 p.m., the photography exhibit “Where Love is Illegal,” which features portraits of people who live in 70 countries where it is illegal to be gay or lesbian, will hold a free viewing and panel discussion at the West Hollywood Library. The art will remain on display until Oct. 11.
At 7 p.m., the film “¡GAYTINO! Made in America” will be debuted in the council chambers. A story about being gay and Chicano, and a father’s love told in cabaret style with story and song, it’s the first public screening from Dan Guerrero. Admission to the movie, which is based on Guerrero’s acclaimed solo play and national tour, is free.
The council chambers and library are located at 625 N. San Vicente Blvd. For information, visit weho.org/pride.
