Few painters are as widely and historically admired as Rembrandt Harmensz. van Rijn (1606-1669), whose works can be found in museums throughout the world. But local residents have an opportunity to see many important Rembrandts in their own backyard and can learn more by visiting a new website.

The J. Paul Getty Museum recently relaunched Rembrandt in Southern California, an online resource and virtual exhibition that presents all of the Rembrandt paintings in Southern California museum collections, as well as information about Rembrandt’s drawings and prints in the region.

Rembrandt in Southern California is a project led by the J. Paul Getty Museum in collaboration with the Los Angeles County Museum of Art, Hammer Museum, Norton Simon Museum and Timken Museum of Art.

Rembrandt in Southern California features high-quality images. In the Virtual Exhibition of Paintings section, viewers can zoom into high resolution images to explore the paintings in detail.

The updated site also offers new insight into Rembrandt’s drawings and prints, including those at the Huntington Library and the USC Fisher Museum of Art.
