The Wallis Annenberg Center for the Performing Arts presents The Sorting Room, a series of nine eclectic programs running from Thursday, June 13 through Saturday, June 29.

The Sorting Room transforms The Wallis’ Lovelace Studio Theater into a 140-seat nightclub space offering audiences a rare opportunity to experience some of the best and emerging talent in cabaret, live contemporary music, spoken word and other genres. Named in honor of the room’s original purpose as a mail sorting room during Hollywood’s Golden Age, The Sorting Room’s summer session includes a performance by El Haru Kuroi on June 13, at 7 p.m. El Haru Kuroi is an East Los Angeles trio with an original musical style drawing from members’ cultural upbringing, but also featuring elements of Mexican, South American, African and American jazz.

“Steve Ross: Cole Porter And Beyond” will be held on June 14 and 15, at 7 p.m. Ross takes audiences on a musical and anecdotal journey through Porter’s works from the 1920s through the 1950s. The show also includes works by Porter’s contemporaries such as the Gershwins, Jerome Kern and Rodgers & Hart, and a tribute to Fred Astaire.

Additional installments of the series include “Love Always Wins: Daniel Beaty in Concert with Special Guests Ledisi & Esperanza Spalding” on June 20 and 27, at 8 p.m.; “The John Holiday Experience: Love & Happiness” on June 21, at 7 p.m.; Perla Batalla in “The House Of Cohen: Songs Of Leonard Cohen” on June 22, at 7 p.m.; and Impro Theatre’s “L.A. Noir Unscripted” on June 23, at 7 p.m.

Also included is “A Little New Music,” an evening of new musical theater songs on June 26, at 7 p.m.; “Feels Like Love: An Intimate Evening with Chrysta Bell” on June 28, at 7 p.m.; and “The B.Slade Experience” on June 29, at 7 p.m.
