Griffith Observatory will hold an installment of its All Space Considered free public lecture series on Friday, June 7, at 7:30 p.m. in the Leonard Nimoy Event Horizon Theater.

All Space Considered is a monthly program that provides an inside look at some of the most talked-about subjects in astronomy, space science and exploration. Grammy-winning composer Eric Whitacre will be the special guest, discussing his recent composition, “Deep Field.” The piece was inspired by the Hubble Space Telescope’s iconic Deep Field image, a 10-day exposure of a tiny pinprick of sky that, before the image, appeared to have nothing in it. The image revealed thousands of galaxies and provided a new understanding of the universe. Whitacre will describe the origins of the piece, the artistic process behind its development and the challenges that arise in bridging the gap between science and art.
