A community service of Santa Monica College, KCRW is Southern California’s leading National Public Radio affiliate, featuring an eclectic mix of music, news, information and cultural programming. The station boasts one of the country’s largest arrays of locally produced, nationally distributed talk program content. KCRW can be found on the air in Los Angeles, Santa Barbara, Ventura, Mojave, Palm Springs, San Luis Obispo, and as far away as Berlin, Germany.
“I am proud to be honoring KCRW as the 50th Assembly District’s 2019 Nonprofit of the Year,” Bloom said. “Though the station is certainly a source of pride for my district, its impact can be felt throughout the whole LA region and beyond.”
Renowned throughout the world for its music programming, through which many established and emerging artist have made their performance debuts, KCRW also creates culturally responsive programming that speaks to the nuanced interests of the Southern California community. With over 100 weekly hours of original programming, KCRW balances news and culture with local live experiences, including concerts and music events such as its World Festival at the Hollywood Bowl and its annual Summer Nights.
“KCRW is so much more than a radio station,” Bloom said. “It is a vital source of news at a time when journalism is under attack and when facts are perceived as optional. KCRW provides exemplary, unbiased journalism that enhances the quality of life for thousands of listeners by presenting trusted information that inspires curiosity, promotes understanding, and produces civic dialogue.”
