The Loren L. Zachary Society will hold the 47th annual National Vocal Competition Grand Finals Concert on Sunday, May 19, at 2 p.m. at the Wilshire Ebell Theatre.
Ten opera singers selected from a nationwide search will perform the music of Verdi, Puccini, Mozart and other composers. The vocalists will be accompanied by the Los Angeles Performing Arts Orchestra conducted by Brent McMunn, music director of the USC Thornton Opera.
The featured artists include soprano Claire De Monteil, tenor Piotr Buszewski and bass Brent Smith, of the Academy of Vocal Arts in Philadelphia, and mezzo soprano Amanda Bottoms, who attends the Curtis Institute of Music.
Additional performers include baritone Hubert Zapior, who attends the Juilliard School in New York City, tenor J. Warren Mitchell, baritone Jaeman Yoon, soprano Anastasia Malliaras, baritone Efrain Solis and bass-baritone LaMarcus Miller.
The Loren L. Zachary National Vocal Competition helps young opera singers advance their careers. Past winners include Michael Fabiano, Thomas Russell, Eric Owens, Thomas Hampson, Bryan Hymel, Angels Meade, Ailyn Perez and Sondra Radvanovsky.
