The top 220 students out of 9,000 fifth graders from throughout the Los Angeles area will compete for the title of Conga Kids Spring Dance Champions on Wednesday, May 22, from 5 to 6:30 p.m. at Xbox Plaza at L.A. Live
The nonprofit Conga Kids is offered in schools and teaches students social and emotional learning through dance. Students in the competition will perform five partnership dances – merengue, swing, salsa, tango, and fox trot. Participants are from the Los Angeles Unified School District and other districts throughout Los Angeles County.
Special guests include mixed martial artist Brian Ortega, who will donate $10,000 from his foundation enabling two additional schools to participate in Conga Kids next school year. Conga Kids is a nonprofit corporate citizenship partner of the Conga Room.
