A 43-year-old man has been charged with stealing money from the late comic book creator Stan Lee and falsely imprisoning him last year, the Los Angeles County District Attorney’s Office announced on May 28.

Keya Morgan, also known as Keyrash Mazhari, was charged with one felony count of false imprisonment of an elder by use of fraud and deceit, three felony counts of grand theft from an elder of more than $950 and one misdemeanor count of elder abuse for knowingly and willfully inflicting mental suffering on the victim. The grand theft charges include an allegation of taking more than $100,000 through fraud and embezzlement, according to a felony criminal complaint filed on May 10.

Morgan, who formerly served as Lee’s business manager, was arrested during the Memorial Day weekend in Arizona and is expected to be extradited to Los Angeles County. Arraignment will be scheduled at a later date.

In May and June 2018, the defendant allegedly took money belonging to the 95-year-old Lee and falsely imprisoned him in a location outside of his residence in the Hollywood Hills. Lee died last Nov. 12 at the age of 95.

Morgan faces a possible maximum sentence of 10 years in prison. The case remains under investigation by the Los Angeles County District Attorney’s Office’s Bureau of Investigation and the Los Angeles Police Department.
