Oscar-nominated filmmaker John Singleton died on Monday, April 29, and flowers were placed on his star on the Hollywood Walk of Fame star in the 6900 block of Hollywood Boulevard. Singleton, 51, a native of South Los Angeles, directed “Boyz n the Hood,” for which he became the first African American to be nominated for an Academy Award for Best Director. Singleton also directed movies like “Poetic Justice,” “Baby Boy” and “2 Fast 2 Furious.”
