Los Angeles Dodgers pitcher Julio Urias was arrested on May 13 after allegedly being involved in a domestic violence incident at the Beverly Center.
A witness called police around 7:30 p.m. about a physical altercation involving a man and woman in the mall’s parking structure near La Cienega and Beverly boulevards. Investigators later allegedly obtained security camera footage that led to Urias’ arrest at approximately 9:30 p.m. on a misdemeanor battery charge. Bail was set at $20,000, according to LAPD spokeswoman Lizeth Lomeli.
Urias, 22, posted bail and was released approximately four hours after he was arrested. Media reports stated that Urias was allegedly seen shoving a woman believed to be his girlfriend. Lomeli would not confirm any further details because the case involves domestic violence.
Major League Baseball placed Urias on seven-day administrative leave on May 14 to allow time for an investigation. The Los Angeles Dodgers are also examining how to proceed. Urias has been with the Dodgers since 2016.
“We learned about the alleged incident [on May 14] and are in the process of gathering information,” read a statement from the Los Angeles Dodgers. “As a result, we have no comment at this time regarding the incident. However, every allegation of domestic violence must be taken seriously and addressed promptly, and we will cooperate fully with the authorities and Major League Baseball to ensure that that happens in this case.”
