A 30-minute documentary highlighting the 27th Los Angeles Department of Water and Power Science Bowl high school competition and LADWP’s education programs will be shown on KLCS Channel 58 on Sunday, April 7, at 7 p.m., and Sunday, April 21, at 10:30 a.m., and 23 times on LA CityView Channel 35 throughout April.
The television program includes interviews with student team members, coaches, alumni, parents and volunteers, and focuses on the hard work and strategies required to win the U.S. Department of Energy National Science Bowl competition. The documentary includes a portion of the final round of competition between North Hollywood High School and the Bravo Medical Magnet High School to determine the regional champion, which was North Hollywood High School. Students who didn’t make it to the final rounds competed in the Science Bowl’s hands-on competition solving puzzles and building model airplanes.
North Hollywood High School won an all-expense paid trip to represent Los Angeles at the National Science Bowl running from April 25 to 29 in Washington, D.C. The trip is funded by the U.S. Department of Education Office of Science.
LADWP regional championship teams have won four national titles and 12 first to fifth place finishes during the past 26 years. In 2019, North Hollywood placed second at the National Science Bowl for the fifth time.
