Seven Los Angeles-area residents were recently appointed or reappointed to state boards or commissions.
Nola Kennedy, 56, of Los Angeles, has been appointed to the California Occupational Safety and Health Standards Board. Kennedy has served as a professor at California State University, Northridge since 2018, where she was an associate professor from 2013 to 2018. She was an assistant professor at the University of California, Los Angeles from 2000 to 2013 and manager of industrial hygiene at Drucker Health and Safety Management Inc. from 1987 to 1994. The position does not require Senate confirmation and the compensation is $100 per diem.
Susan Friedman, 78, of Los Angeles, has been appointed to the Medical Board of California. Friedman was a proaducer for NBC News from 1982 to 2008. She was formerly a reporter and producer for PBS from 1977 to 1982 and is a founding member of the Alliance for Children’s Rights Board of Directors, vice-chair and commissioner on the Los Angeles County Mental Health Commission and a board member of Facing History. The position requires Senate confirmation and the compensation is $100 per diem.
West Hollywood resident Joseph A. Cislowski, 58, has been appointed to the California Commission on Aging. Cislowski has been president at Beverly Park Consulting Group since 2010 and was president and chief executive officer at the Health Care and Elder Law Programs Corporation from 2007 to 2009. Senate confirmation is not required and there is no compensation.
Ross Viselman, 46, of Los Angeles, has been appointed to the Collateral Recovery Disciplinary Review Committee. Viselman has been a senior trial counsel at the State Bar of California and an adjunct professor at the California School of Law since 2011. He has also been a volunteer commissioner for the Los Angeles County Board of Supervisors since 2008. The position does not require Senate confirmation and the compensation is $100 per diem.
Catherine Gudis, 55, of Los Angeles, has been appointed to the California Cultural and Historical Endowment. She has been an associate professor and director of the public history program at the University of California, Riverside since 2007, where she was an assistant professor from 2005 to 2007. She was also director of education at the Los Angeles Conservancy from 2004 to 2006. The position does not require Senate confirmation and the compensation is $100 per diem.
Los Angeles resident Michael Savoy, 67, has been reappointed to the California Board of Accountancy, where he has served since 2010. Savoy has been with Gumbiner Savett Inc. since 1995 and was managing director from 2005 to 2015. Senate confirmation is not required and the compensation is $100 per diem.
Dionne McClain, 50, of Los Angeles, was also reappointed to the California Board of Chiropractic Examiners, where she has served since 2014. McClain has been a chiropractor for McClain Sports and Wellness Inc. since 2000. She was an adjunct professor at Southern California University of Health Sciences from 2008 to 2014, a chiropractor and team consultant for the Los Angeles Avengers from 2000 to 2001 and held several positions in the University of Southern California Athletic Medicine Department from 1989 to 2005. The position does not require Senate confirmation and the compensation is $100 per diem.
