In the December 20, 1962 issue of the Park Labrea News, Walt Disney himself penned a Christmas wish to Parklabreans. “Walt Disney Presents to Parklabreans Donald Duck’s version of a Happy Christmas Eve, only four days away.”
Other highlights in that issue were Du-par’s Pies advertising mince-meat and old fashioned pumpkin, and Tom Bergin’s The Old Horsehoe inviting customers to take a round-trip bus ride to the Rose Bowl game. That year it was USC vs. Wisconsin.
Toyland at Sav-on Drugstore offered Radio Flyer Wagons for $9.69 – what a bargain!
Market Basket grocery store at the south east corner of Third and Fairfax had turkeys for 34¢ a pound, celery for 10¢ and canned yams for 23¢. They closed at 7 p.m. Christmas Eve and closed all day on Christmas.
We encourage our readers to shop local this year for the holidays,. Small businesses in your neighborhood need your support.
