A 34-year-old man described by authorities as a transient was sentenced on Nov. 8 to seven years in state prison for stabbing two people last November on Hollywood Boulevard.
The defendant, Daniel Samuel Jones, pleaded no contest to two felony counts of assault with a deadly weapon and admitted an allegation of causing great bodily injury. The pleas were part of a negotiated agreement with prosecutors, Deputy District Attorney Catherine Mariano said.
On Nov. 22, 2017, Jones stabbed a woman in the arm with a screwdriver on the sidewalk near Hollywood Boulevard and La Brea Avenue in what authorities said was a random attack. Minutes later, Jones entered a nearby hotel and assaulted two employees with a knife. He then left the hotel and stabbed a man walking on the sidewalk in the back with a knife.
Jones initially pleaded not guilty and faced 17 years in prison. The incidents were investigated by the Los Angeles Police Department’s Hollywood Division.
