LAUNCH LA presents “SHē,” an exhibition running from Saturday, Sept. 8, through Saturday, Sept. 29.
The sculptural exhibition explores the portrayal of the female persona through contemporary interpretations. The rendering of the female figure, within a historical context, opens dialogues of superiority, fragility, sexuality and society’s engagement with issues of gender. Through their work, the artists reflect on this history in their portrayals of women.
The exhibit, which is curated by Elizabeth Tingloff, includes works by Sara Alavikia, Phung Huynh, Deborah Martin, Annelie McKenzie, Andrea Patrie, Cima Rahmankhah, Douglas Tausik Ryder, Kristine Schomaker, Kim Tucker, J. Michael Walker and FLOAT (Kate Parsons and Ben Vance).
An opening reception will be held on Sept. 8 from 6-9 p.m. RSVP required by emailing rsvp@launchla.org.
LAUNCH LA is located at 170 S. La Brea Ave. For information, call (323)899-1363, or visit launchla.org.
