Hollywood Division detectives are looking for a suspect who wrote “serial rapist” on actor Bill Cosby’s Walk of Fame star on Sept. 4.

LAPD spokesman Jeff Lee said police became aware of the vandalism at approximately 5:30 a.m. when they saw a report on an early-morning news broadcast. The suspect fled before police arrived. Lee said the words, written with a black marker, were removed. The incident remains under investigation.

“A report was taken and it will be handed over to detectives,” Lee said. “They will check surveillance cameras looking for footage and they will try to determine who did it.”

The incident marks the second time the star, located at 6930 Hollywood Blvd., has been vandalized. Cosby was convicted in April of sexual assault and is awaiting sentencing. The actor received a star in 1977 in the television category, according to the Hollywood Chamber of Commerce, which oversees the Walk of Fame with the Hollywood Historic Trust. A star belonging to President Donald Trump remains under wraps after it was vandalized on July 25 for a second time.

Following the Trump star vandalism, the West Hollywood City Council called for it to be removed. It was a symbolic gesture, as the Walk of Fame is in Hollywood and under the jurisdiction of the Los Angeles City Council. There are no plans to remove any of the stars.

“The Hollywood Walk of Fame is an institution celebrating the positive professional contributions of the inductees,” Hollywood Chamber of Commerce President and CEO Leron Gubler said. “When people are angry with one of our honorees, we would hope that they would project their anger in more positive ways than to vandalize a California state landmark. The star has been cleaned.”
