Re “City Council votes to regulate electric scooters,” Sept. 6 issue
Our thanks to those who created and provide the e-scooters we are seeing throughout the community. What a wonderful way to accommodate those who would otherwise use their cars for local transportation. As we seek to regulate the usage of e-scooters, we should keep safety as our primary goal.
My suggestions:
- The roads are primarily for cars, trucks and motorcycles. Bike lanes may be used by bicycles only.
- The use of helmets and [having a] single-occupier for scooters are strictly strong recommendations, not laws.
- Using available resources where every street has one road and two sidewalks, one sidewalk (the one with the most stores and businesses) should be reserved for pedestrians. The other sidewalk [could be used for] for bicycles, scooters and skateboards. Pedestrians may use [the other sidewalk] with considerable caution.
- Add more crosswalks/crossovers to accommodate pedestrians who need to cross to the other sidewalk to enter a store or building.
