The Los Angeles Unified School District’s Board of Education will vote next week on a resolution calling for a special election in March to fill the seat of school board member Ref Rodriguez, who resigned after pleading guilty to a felony count of conspiracy.
Rodriguez, the Board District 5 representative, had been facing charges that he reimbursed his campaign contributors with his own money. He abdicated his position as board president last year after those charges surfaced, but remained on the school board up until last month.
“We look forward to a robust discussion,” a statement from the school board read. “As elected board members, our collective work is to ensure that the students, families, employees and all stakeholders of the school communities of Board District 5 are fully represented and receive uninterrupted services and support from L.A. Unified.”
