As part of the program, parents and children are encouraged to track the time they spend reading every day online for a chance to win incentives such as tickets to a Dodgers’ game, attending batting practice and being recognized on the field before a game. The partnership includes a visit on Tuesday, Aug. 7, from 11:30 a.m. to noon, to the West Hollywood Library, 625 N. San Vicente Blvd.
In 2017, the Los Angeles Dodgers Foundation launched LA Reads, a literacy campaign that includes the “Dodgers Reading Champions” literacy challenge. In its first year, the program reached 2,400 students who read more than 600,000 minutes. In 2018, the Dodgers and Los Angeles Dodgers Foundation challenge students to read one million minutes. The “Dodgers Reading Champions” program is open to first through eighth-grade students through Aug. 31.
Dodgers’ alumni will visit four other county libraries through Aug. 14. For a list and information, visit dodgers.com/lareads and lacountylibrary.org.
