Response to Stormy Daniels letters was on the money
Re “Letters to the Editor: WeHo’s Stormy Daniels honor prompts reaction,” June 14 issue
Commendations are due to the Beverly Press/Park Labrea News for outstanding integrity in reporting the local news. Your response to letter writer Natalie Roberts is perfect.
She implied that the power of the press should be employed to influence readers. Your response was right on the money, “We are simply doing our jobs as responsible journalists.”
On the other hand, so many newspapers – including major publications – do in fact use the power of the press while resorting to bias in their news reports in ways that encourage and spread prejudice.
[On a different subject], Mid City West’s bicycle education class reported on page 10 is a great idea. But our city needs to take the next step forward. I have seen bicyclists speeding down sidewalks along with elderly pedestrians, and disobeying traffic laws with abandon. My suggestion: a voluntary class with limited attendees just does not go far enough. How about treating bicyclists as we do motorists, including licensing requirements? And the same applies to skateboarders. Safety is essential.
