The Ford Theatres, in association with choreographer and director Arianne MacBean and The Big Show Co., presents the world premiere of “The Collective Memory Project” on Thursday, June 28, and Friday, June 29, at 8:30 p.m.

“The Collective Memory Project” is an original dance-theater piece inspired by memories of U.S. military veterans, the show’s performers and the audience. All audience members will be seated onstage during the intimate performance, which is part of the IGNITE @ the FORD! series.

The show is the culmination of a three-year community performance initiative and follows 13 Memory Movement Workshops held with local veterans at the Ford Theatres. The work examines the effects of memory through time, including remembrance and forgetting, and aspects of the past hat haunt present memories. Just like memories, no two versions of “The Collective Memory Project” are alike, as memories of each new audience are incorporated into every presentation.

“Using our signature blend of dance, theater, text, music and visual imagery, we have created a series of inclusive, highly-personal performances where memories are activated and reimagined to create communal performance experiences,” MacBean said. “The Big Show Co. has partnered with LA-based nonprofit, Veterans in Media & Entertainment, which works to bridge the military [and] civilian divide to provide a series of memory-writing workshops from which text is used to create scripts for The Big Show Co. performances.”
